America 250 in the Planetarium

Planetarium show about pre-Revolutionary pamphlets at Bowling Green State University.

Curious about how people debated big ideas before the internet? This program explores the printed arguments that fueled tension between Britain and America in the decades leading up to the Revolution. Michelle Sweetser, head librarian of BGSU's archival collections, will walk you through the "pamphlet wars"—heated written exchanges about taxes, colonial rights, and government policies that took place between 1765 and 1774. You'll get to see actual historical pamphlets and other colonial materials from the university's collection, bringing this fascinating chapter of American history to life. The evening includes a bonus: after the presentation wraps up, stick around for a planetarium show called "Navigating with Lewis & Clark" at 8:45 p.m. This is part of a larger nine-program series celebrating American innovation and discovery through different lenses. Best of all, it's completely free and open to everyone. Parking is also free with license plate registration at the door. If you need any accessibility accommodations, contact the university's Accessibility Services ahead of time.
